Volunteer Nevada County

Intake and Referral Specialist at Welcome Home Vets

April 25, 2017

Welcome Home Vets (WHV) provides psychotherapy at no cost to their clients and promotes community awareness of the effects of military-related psychological trauma, such as post traumatic stress, on the individual, the family, and the community. They advocate for the needs of their clients, either as individuals or as a group. Because the needs of veterans and families can be multi-faceted, WHV also provides referrals to local resources for housing, employment, health, education and other supportive services.

Currently WHV is recruiting for an Intake and Referral Specialist to work in their offices every Monday and/or Tuesday from 11am-4pm. As the I&R Specialist, the volunteer would interview potential clients in person or over the telephone, screen clients for appropriateness of WHV services, complete the intake procedure for WHV clients, provide referrals to appropriate services for non-mental health needs of Vets and their families, as well as assisting veterans in utilizing on-line Veterans Administration resources. The individual who volunteers at this opportunity should have the ability to relate to a variety of people, have good written and oral communication skills, and be competent in Microsoft Office Programs. Knowledge of Veteran Benefits is a plus.
